I think the narrator was mad because he killed the old man because of his pale blue eye. He didn't have more reasons!

Im my opinion, the narrator was very careful because he planned everything carefully. He cut the old man`s body into pieces,he hid his body under the boards, put one chair on the boards...

In my opinion, the narrator says he is clever, but I think he isn't intelligent because at the end he confessed that he had killed the man.

POLICEMEN'S VERSION:

When we first arrived at the house the man explained that the had shouted out in a dream.
He seemed very calm and we believed his story at first.
There was something very strange about this man and we were beginning to think that he was mad.
Why did he throw his chair onto the floor and begin to talk so loudly and angrily?

We like the story but... If the narrator didn't like the pale blue eye ... He's too mad, the policemen didn't know about the dead man but his conscience told them the truth.
